Transcendence and Laicity in Mexico

From the 6th to the 9th of May 2013 a series of events and dialogues took place in Mexico under the umbrella heading Transcendence and Laicity in Mexico. The programme of events took in Monterrey, Puebla and Mexico City included an examination of the encounter between Faith and Culture in our time, a re-evaluation of the role of universities today in the light of the dialogue between Faith and Culture and a significant moment for the Courtyard of the Gentiles on the American Continent.

Seminarians, university students, bishops, atheists and the general public reflected on the place of Faith in Mexico's public and academic life and there was a revision of pastoral strategies and some dialogue initiatives aimed at engaging in personal dialogue Mexican intellectuals, artists, poets and philosophers.

The series of events also saw Eucharistic celebrations and a solemn ceremony in which the President of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi was awarded with a Doctorate (honoris causa) in the Humanities.
